Rm 12 - The Young Suite

The Young Suite is the sunniest room in the Inn. It has three large windows and is located in the front northeast corner of the Inn. This room has the original wood plank floorboards and heating grates incorporated into the décor. The queen-size four-poster pine bed and matching armoire make guests feel as if they are in a country farmhouse.

About Thomas Fitch Young
Thomas Fitch Young was the original owner of the land on which Hiram College was built. Young came to the township of Hiram from Connecticut in 1812 and built a log house in the center of town. This building became known as "Young's Exchange" and served as tavern, stagecoach stop and local post office. In 1824, Young's family replaced his original log building with a framed house. Hiram College purchased the house and adjacent property from the Young family in 1992, and incorporated the large, front portion of the Young home into the present-day Hiram Inn.
