Rm 15 - The Allyn Suite

The Pelatiah Allyn Suite is our signature room. This room is located on the first floor and is one of our two handicapped accessible suites. A king-sized, black, wrought iron bed, covered with a lovely ivory coverlet, centers the room. A three-dimensional, hand-made, hooked rug displaying a hunting dog is mounted on the wall to greet all who enter this room. Many guests have offered to take this dog home to call his or her own, but he is a permanent fixture of The Hiram Inn in room 115.

About Pelatiah Allyn Jr.
Born in 1823, Pelatiah Allyn Jr. was one of the founding fathers of Hiram College. Allyn moved with his family to Hiram Township when the Hiram Christian Church was established here in 1835. Along with two other men, Alvah Udall and Carnot Mason, Allyn was instrumental in rallying local support for establishing the College in the present-day village of Hiram. Allyn, who was a renowned carpenter, supervised the construction of the College's first building, Old Main, doing much of the work himself. He died in 1852.
