The Hayden Suite is affectionately called our "Wicker Room." The white wicker furniture, pale yellow walls, and fireplace make this room a favorite for many of our guests. A natural twig and flower wreath above the fireplace mantle softly states, "Spring Has Arrived."

About Amos Sutton Hayden
Amos Sutton Hayden was the first President of Hiram College. Born in 1813 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the youngest of eight children. Hayden had little formal education, but was an accomplished private scholar. Hayden served as secretary to the delegation of Disciples of Christ Churches that jointly coordinated the founding of the College. In 1850, he was appointed "Principal" of the Western Reserve Eclectic Institute, the original name for Hiram College. Hayden served as Principal of the Institute until 1857. He died in 1880.
